The head bartender of The Elk Room had the idea of a retro, classic Nintendo menu design. As I wondered how to seamlessly blend 90s entertainment with the speakeasy ambiance, the concept for "underground Mario" emerged. A transformation of the cave setting worked seamlessly with the aesthetic of The Elk Room with its dimmed lighting, hooded leather chairs, red velvet drapery, and red neon sign.

In the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic where disposable menus and QR codes were the norm, this menu concept became a more intentional experience. Guests could additionally immerse themselves by listening to a carefully curated Spotify playlist, where each cocktail's name found its musical counterpart.
